"Gargoyles & Graffiti"chronicles architectural elements that I find interesting or unique in my travels. Gargoyles are my passion, but today graffiti (which I hate but am learning to love as it is everywhere) is as much a part of architecture as the gargoyles and decorative railings that thrill me.

Good Morning La Spezia

Arriving at La Spezia, Italy

Waking up one morning on our cruise as we pulled in to La Spezia, Italy, I snapped a few photos. It was a foggy morning with a chill in the air, probably about 65 degrees F. It was early, before 7am. The sun was coming up as we arrived. There was nobody out and about on deck. It was glorious.

Rounding the corner to dock at La Spezia

No gargoyles or graffiti, but I loved it!

I do have to share one embarrassing story about La Spezia. The night before we arrived, I drank about 2 gallons of water. The next morning, I drank three or four cups of coffee. Way too much liquid, in other words. So when I desperately had to go to the bathroom after the ride on the tender and before we left on the bus, I eventually found a place. But guess what? It was a hole in the ground with marble sides for my feet. That was quite an experience .... a coffee shop near the marina at La Spezia.
